Cervantes VR 1.0

CERVANTES VR is a stereoscopic virtual reality experience that immerses users in historical stories and characters, landscapes, and cultural heritage through real-life 360° imagery complemented by illustrations and animations within an interactive virtual environment.

While our knowledge of Miguel de Cervantes’ biography contains numerous gaps, exploring the era in which he lived and engaging with his work becomes possible through CERVANTES VR. The experience allows users to virtually travel back in time, gaining insight into his life and creative process.

Participants are virtually positioned at the center of each scene, enabling a journey into Cervantes’ mind, his boundless imagination, and the moment of scene and character creation. The experience transports users through authentic and imagined settings that shaped his life: the Battle of Lepanto against the Turks, his five-year captivity in Algiers and his failed escape attempts, the comedy theaters where he nurtured his passion for theater, and the house where he was born in Alcalá de Henares.

Utilizing 360° video technology and virtual reality devices, the experience offers an immersive perspective on Spain’s Golden Age. Characters such as Cervantes, Sancho Panza, and Don Quixote engage directly with the audience, who can also become active participants by navigating scenes interactively through movement or device orientation.

The project aims to facilitate a deeper understanding of Cervantes as a figure and his literary contributions while positioning users within his historical context. CERVANTES VR is designed to be an innovative pioneering project that sets a new standard in the application of Virtual Reality to cultural education.

With a strong emphasis on artistic quality—covering filming, scripting, locations, character performances, graphic design, sound engineering, technical excellence, and pioneering spirit—this initiative aspires to combine storytelling, culture, and cutting-edge technology. Its goal is to disseminate Cervantes’ legacy both within Spain and internationally.
